Bethany Petersen had two brothers: Toby (3 years older)
and Ian (6 years older). Both boys skated for Blm.
Jefferson. Ian began as a 10th grader and Toby as
a 9th grader. Both went on to Colorado College.
This was the environment, and the caliber of athletic
skill, Bethany was raised in.
Bethany played on boys Pee Wee and Bantam teams through
the 1996-97 season. |

A Final Tribute |
Krissy
Wendell, in December 2000:
"I've been friends with Bethany since we were in Pee
Wees. How good is she (Bethany)? She's one
of the best defenseman in the country."
Gophers coach Laura Halldorson, in December 2000:
"Bethany is tough physically and mentally --- she has
sort of a kamikaze style."
1999 First Team All-State
There were five skating positions: 3 forwards and 2
defenders. Four of the positions were
immediately filled by the four best players in Minnesota
high school girls hockey history. For all
practical purposes, "First Team All-State" was
open for only one skater. And that was Bethany
Petersen. |
