As Kelly tells it:
I started out as a figure skater when I
was 4 years old, but by the following
year I was playing hockey with the boys.
I continued to play boys hockey through
Peewee’s. The last boys team I played on
was the Eden Prairie Peewee A boys team.
I was in 7th grade.
The following year as an 8th grader I
made the Eden Prairie Varsity Girl's
team and played in every game.
My dad played high school hockey at
Richfield High School and college hockey
at The College of St. Scholastica.
[He was CSS team captain in 1983.]
I have an older sister Ashley
[who never played hockey, but]
who played
on four State Cup Championship soccer
teams in MN, and went on to letter for
the U of MN Gopher women's team in the
2005 season.
She was an All-State and 1st Team
All-Metro soccer player her senior year
at EP
[Class
of 2005].
