How She Got Started
Let Kristina tell it: I
told my grandpa that I wanted to try
playing. So
one day he went out with me and bought me
all of the equipment that I needed.
I brought it
home to tell my mom and she started to cry
because at that time girls really didnt play
hockey. She
told me if I wanted to play hockey I would
have to be in dance too, I started to cry
then. I
taught myself how to skate and played street
hockey with the neighbor boys.
The rest is
all history. I
skated a lot when I was really young with
the double blade skates probably not much
after I could walk. I started hockey skating
when I was about 7 or 8. Did
your parents play
hockey?Neither. My
older brother started playing the same year
I did. I
played with the boys my first year or

organized hockey and also in spring/summer
and fall leagues on and off.

A Final Tribute

Blaine's Jody Horak is the best goalie in
the state. Teammate Tiffany Hagge might be
an Olympian in the near future. Where does
that leave Bengals freshman phenom Kristina
Bunker? "How does the 2006 Olympics sound?"
Blaine coach Marci Bydlon said. "I'm not
kidding. She's that good, but she's just too
young right now."
