How She Got Started |
In the St. Paul suburb of
Roseville, Aladdin Street is one of those places where
the neighboring kids are friends, and where there is
always a game going on. Whether it is called
ice hockey, street hockey, boot hockey, ball hockey or
roller hockey, the kids from Aladdin always seem to
have a game going on.
Aladdin Street is where Jack and
Marlene Brodt have raised their five children, and where
those children have made names for themselves in the
hockey world. The first was oldest son, Vic,
who became team captain at St. Cloud State.
Then daughter Kerry was named the head girls' hockey
coach at North St. Paul High School. The
third child, Winny, proved herself worthy against tough
competition. As an eighth grader, she was
one of just a handful of kids (all the others were boys)
to make the boys' bantam A team as first year players

| Winny's
parents, Jack and Marlene Brodt, have been involved in
hockey all their lives, and their intensity is legendary
in Roseville. Marlene plays on McGovern's Senior A
women's team, along with daughter Kerry. Mom
Marlene admits that she and her husband are pretty
intense, but Winny is just like her sister Kerry -- both
always stay under control. |
